A Celebration of Friends Draws Nearly 400 Supporters
Close to 400 supporters of children attended A Celebration of Friends awards dinner sponsored by La Rabida Children's Hospital in mid November at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago.
Guests enjoyed cocktails, followed by dinner and a star-studded awards ceremony that spotlighted celebrities, dignitaries, business and civic leaders.
ABC 7’s co-anchor Kathy Brock served as mistress of ceremonies, emceeing the evening program, attended by Carol Moseley-Braun, former U.S. Senator and honorary member of La Rabida’s board; Paula Jill Krasny, Partner, Baker & McKenzie LLP; Sen. Kwame Raoul; and philanthropist Kim Van Kampen Boyer.
Sixteen-year-old La Rabida patient and darling Emily Boyich told guests La Rabida has been an advocate in managing her diabetes.
"In my five-year relationship with La Rabida, I have not had a time when I felt like I couldn't get or have them do something to help."
A private audience with Fashion Designer Maria Pinto, suite seats at the Cell, and a beachfront villa in the British Virgin Islands were among the items on the bidding block in a silent auction that raised more than $25,000.
The event was heralded as a success thanks in part to the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of event co-chairmen: La Rabida trustees Howard Alper, Founder, Alper Services, Robert Arthur, President, Magellan Corporation, and La Rabida Business Council member Patrick Lynch, President, Chicago Equity Partners.
