Kathryn E. Roberts, RN, MSN, CCRN, CCNS, is the clinical nurse specialist in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She has written and published articles in numerous professional journals and lectures nationally in the areas of pediatric acute and critical care and resuscitation related topics. She is actively involved with both the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. She is President Elect for AACN and the serves on the Board of Directors for the AACN Certification Corporation. |

Rosemary Briars, ND, PNP-BC, CDE, is co-program director of the Chicago Children’s Diabetes Center at La Rabida Children's Hospital. With more than 25 years of experience treating children with diabetes, Briars is board-certified as a PNP by the ANCC and a diabetes educator through the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators. She joined the CCDC in 1991. Under her guidance, the program has grown to serve more than 800 children with diabetes at several Chicago and Northwest Indiana locations. |

Kimberly Downing, RN, JD, is coordinator for the Greater Illinois Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (GIPPCC) for Horizon Hospice and Palliative Care, where she organizes clinical education, encourages effective resource utilization and promotes state and federal policies that foster support for children with potentially life limiting illnesses and their families. Downing’s nursing experience also includes time as a community-based pediatric home care nurse and a pediatric hospice and palliative care nurse. |

Rachel Epley, MM, MT-BC is a music therapist at Horizon Hospice and Palliative Care in Chicago. Working with both adult and pediatric patients, Rachel integrates music therapy into patients’ care plans as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. She uses a variety of techniques including song writing, music-facilitated relaxation, improvisation, singing, instrument playing, and music-facilitated movement to provide support to critically ill patients and their families. Rachel received a Master’s Degree in Music Therapy from Illinois State University, a Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the Ohio State University, and completed her internship in music therapy at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Prior to becoming a music therapist, Rachel directed arts education programs in elementary schools, symphony orchestras, and community music schools, and taught trumpet at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Rachel is a member of the American Association of Music Therapy and is certified through the Certification Board of Music Therapists. |

Joan Cantwell is an accomplished nurse, artist, published author, teacher, and health specialist. She has developed a series of programs integrating expressive arts into various therapeutic environments and brings artistic vision and holistic healthcare expertise together in dynamic and creative workshops, classes, seminars, and retreats. |

Keith Olson is director of organizational development at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He is responsible for leadership development, guiding the Great Place to Work initiative, organizational development initiatives and employee surveys/focus groups. Olson, a well-seasoned presenter, engages participants with passion and energy. |
Conference Overview
The goals of this conference are to enhance healthcare professionals’ practices through the development of leadership and management skills, as well as to provide clinical updates in pediatric specialties. The presenters in each teaching session have developed learner objectives which will be listed in the registration materials on the day of the event. Successful completion of this event will be ascertained through completed evaluation tools and attendance sign-in sheets.

This activity has been approved by the Illinois Nurses Association Approver Unit for 5 contact hours. Illinois Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's commision on Accreditation.
