La Rabida has long been recognized as a leader in the diagnosis and treatment of children with developmental delays. We offer comprehensive programs for children who require early intervention health services to promote growth and development.
It is not uncommon for babies born prematurely or in a multiple birth to spend time in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Following a NICU admission, an infant may not yet be ready to go home. The lungs may be underdeveloped; there may be feeding issues. The child may need to rely on a ventilator to breathe or a feeding tube to obtain nutrients.
La Rabida becomes the interim home for NICU “graduates” as they grow stronger under the watchful supervision of pediatric specialists. During this time we provide intensive services to babies as they feed, grow and develop. We also train parents on how to monitor and medically manage their child’s health at home.
Following discharge from La Rabida, infants with residual developmental risks can continue to receive care at La Rabida through our early intervention outpatient programs. La Rabida programs also tend to children who manifest developmental delays in later stages of growth.
