Keynotes
Judith Simon Prager, Ph.D.
Hypnotherapist, consultant and author
Since 2001, Dr. Prager has taught the protocol of Verbal First Aid, How to speak in medical emergencies to relieve pain, calm, promote healing and save lives, to firefighters, emergency medical personnel, doctors, nurses and police officers across the U.S., at New York University Hospital immediately after the September 11th attack, and in England and in China after the devastating 2008 earthquake that killed 80,000 people.
Verbal First Aid is a protocol for a language of healing that helps set a trajectory for recovery when people are in fear, pain or crisis. At such times, they slip into fight/flight/or freeze and their autonomic nervous system is open to suggestions. Every word said to them can harm or heal. Children often trust adults to tell them how the world works. Verbal First Aid provides techniques for building that trust which then allows the healing suggestions of the clinician to gain efficacy in the mind and body of the child. Several techniques will be presented for using a child’s natural perceptions of reality vs. fantasy to help promote calm, well being and sometimes healing.
