La Rabida Patient Featured on the Northwestern University Website
Monday May 24th, 2010
Chicago Children’s Diabetes Center patient Brianna Irving recently revealed her secret weapon against the Type 1 Diabetes that doctors discovered just before she turned two years old.
In an interview with Northwestern University’s Medill News Service, 9-year-old Brianna rattled off the number of carbohydrate grams in her daily meals, and then explained to a reporter how the insulin pump sitting on her left hip breaks down blood sugar in her growing body.
Still, the talkative nine-year-old lives a full life calculated to include school, sports, and a weekly outing that would make most children want to trade places with Brianna – at least for a day.
“I love McDonald’s Monday,” the young patient told Medill News Service children’s health writer Jennifer M. Weaver. “It’s my favorite day of the week.”
